My family just came back from a bruising 10-day Elephant Safari. It sounded like the best trip ever, but dreams and reality definitely don’t match!

We had costumes made for us in Bangkok and then all the detail work finished here in Tokyo before we left as usual. Everything was picture perfect and arranged to the last detail as always, except NONE of us where prepared for the ride itself. A nightmare!

We are taking our twin grandchildren to Alaska for a combination land tour and cruise. In fact, we are leaving this afternoon. Though our grandkids are smart, they have not acquired travel smarts yet, so we helped them plan for the trip. Here is what we did.

PACKING LIST. I typed a list of all the things the kids would need for the trip. This list included clothing that could be layered (long sleeved t-shirts, long underwear, sweatshirts, etc.) and clothes for one formal dinner aboard ship. Rain gear was at the top of the list.

One of my husbands’ friend had already been to Switzerland and he provided us with a tour plan for four days. We had four days and there was so much to do and see. We tried to squeeze in everything that we could. Instead of staying at a hotel in Inerlaken (it was suggested by our friend and all the Indian crowd invariably land there). Interlaken is in the center of Switzerland, so it can be made base for the tour, but my husband had already talked to his friend in Lausanne and we stayed there for our trip.Lausanne is the Olympic Capital” since 1994. It is home to the Olympic Museum, the most visited site in Switzerland. Bjart Ballet of Lausanne is world-famous.
