The Malaga Airport knows how to process large numbers of visitors, and rightfully so. Most of the people who are arriving in Spain to visit the Costal del Sol region use the Malaga Airport.
Malaga Airport Tips
Since this airport is used to a large amount of traffic they also know that travelers need a number of services and they strive to offer them. Once you get into one of the airport terminals look for an information desk. They will be able to give you a rundown of all the services that are available.
You should always stop and smell the roses. You can do just that in Retiro Park in Madrid. But that is just the beginning of the magic at the Parque del Buen Retiro. While the park is only 300 acres, not massive for a park, that space is well used to display sculptures and monuments. A number of events for the holidays call the area around the park’s lake home, and this small space has grown from a place just to take a stroll into a not-to-miss attraction in the city.
The success of the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona was the catalyst for prompting a new generation of interest in Spain as The next big European destination.
Its not hard to see why: with its close proximity to the UK and other popular countries in Western Europe like France and Italy, with a good mix of new and improving infrastructure, a fair share of well preserved ancient relics from bygone eras, not to mention a reputation for more than 300 days of sunshine a year, Spain has something to offer every kind of tourist.
The island of Fuerteventura is part of the Canary islands ( so called as the first settlers discovered many large dogs - canes - inhabiting the island originally, nothing to do with the Canary bird!) The Canary islands are actually an African archipelago but fall under Spanish rule. Herein lies possibly the major attraction of the Canaries, African weather in a politically stable island forming part of the European Union. Fuerteventura is actually the most Eastern of the isles and is closer to Morocco than mainland Spain (only 60 miles from the coast of Morocco). Because of this location the island enjoys over 300 days of beautiful sunshine per year. Even in winter it is rare for average temperature to drop below 18 degrees and during summer months will average over 26 degrees. Lying on the same latitude as Florida and Mexico, Fuerteventura enjoys a similar climate despite being only a 4 hour flight from any UK national or regional airport. perhaps the perfect getaway for Northern Europeans during the winter months, the only other locations offering winter sun with a similar flying time being Egypt and Cyprus.
If you have a desire to see some of the best art in Spain, look no further than the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia on Calle Santa Isabel 52. Among the masterpieces hanging on the walls are works from Solana, Miro and Picasso.
One of the most famed pieces of the hundreds of works hanging on the walls of the Queen Sofia is Picasso’s Guernica. That joined with the other works have ranked this museum’s modern art collection as one of the most important not just in Spain, but in all off Europe.
The Museu del Prado is one of the most popular tourist spots in Madrid. Though this museum houses over 7,000 paintings, the emphasis on famous Spanish artists, Velázquez, Goya and El Greco is very evident. There are, of course, many works of art from many other artists.
The museum is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Visitors can spend hours enjoying the lovely grounds, the architecture of this nineteenth century building completed in 1819, and the beautiful pieces of art found within. Much of the early collection found within the museum is from paintings obtained by Spanish nobility.
To visit Spain by train
Travelling from the UK to Spain couldn’t be easier. Leave by train on the afternoon Eurostar from London to Paris and then the highly recommended ‘trainhotel’ from Paris to Madrid or Barcelona. Trainhotels have comfortable bedrooms, a restaurant and a café bar. Some of the top of the range rooms even have private toilet and shower facilities. The following morning jump on a fast train from Barcelona to Valencia or Alicante or from Madrid to Malaga, Seville or Granada. Reasonable fares start at £59 return, London to Paris plus £100 for the journey from Paris to Madrid or Barcelona including a sleeper compartment.
Most famously known for its endless beaches and year-round sunshine as well as the sultry Flamenco and the gory bullfights, Spain has oodles more to offer than that. For thousands of years, Spain has been one of the prime cultural centres of Europe. What distinguishes Spain from the other European countries is its distinctly Arab characteristic which is a result of almost eight centuries of Arab influence.
Spain’s diversity is overwhelming. Its various regions are all conspicuously different from each other; from their geography and climate to their cuisine and culture. Every city and town is an eclectic mix of ancient monuments and futuristic architecture standing testimony to Spain’s centuries old history and its changing times. Cities and towns are littered with Roman aqueducts and Islamic palaces, medieval castles and Gothic cathedrals.
For a feel of royalty while traveling through Madrid, you need not go far, just to the Palacio Real, or the Royal Palace. An astounding building, it has nearly 3000 rooms, not to mention it’s 40 staircases, and 240 balconies. When it comes to the magnitude of the building, it only comes second to Versailles.
When adding the palace to your tourist destinations, you will be amazed at its magnitude. While less than 10 percent of the palace is open to the public, you will not even be able to see that portion of the structure in a single day. What you will see is astounding attention to detail in construction and decoration from the lush tapestries to the rococo decorations including porcelain and other precious treasures
Could the writing be on the wall for low cost airlines operating out of the UK and other European countries as the Conservative Party - once a campaigner and implementer of lower taxes - has called for purchase tax to be introduced to domestic flights?
The tax would add up to 17.5 per cent on to the cost of a flight from one British city to another, but while flights to the European mainland and popular holiday islands such as Menorca aren’t specifically mentioned, one travel company believes the new policy will inevitably lead to higher fares for flights not just within Britain, but elsewhere too.
