Florida being fortunate to have warm, humid summertime and moderately cold winters makes an excellent location for camping. The state boasts of some of the best marine, freshwater environs and semitropical coastal upland locations that provide excellent opportunities to fishing, hiking, camping, boating and wildlife enthusiasts.
Florida’s Federal & State parks are blessed with many heritage and cultural legacies.
You are sure to feel the closeness with nature while coming in contact with various animal and plant species witnessed at no other place in the world. Such exhilarating experience is made possible by the rich and bio diverse character of Florida’s national parks, seashores and forests that make a treat whether you are camping in a normal summer tent or in the properly ventilated 3-season version.

We moved to Florida when I was only 5, many, many years ago, before it became wall to wall houses, condos and shopping centers. But, about the seashells, moving there from Pennsylvania, the beach appeared to be a wondrous thing, and my parents took us there at least once a week, normally more often that that. At first we would take a few seashells home, but they were in such abundance that eventually we just walked by them, or picked them up, admired them and put them down. During the winter months, you would see tourists, who really knew nothing about seashells, combing the beaches for their bag of shells to take home to the frozen north, so they could remember their sunny vacation in Florida. Looking back all those years, I wish I had spent a few minutes each time we went to the beach to find only 1 or 2 of the best shells to save, but I didn’t.
Blizzard Beach is a wet adventure that is unmistakably Disney. The 66-acre water park, has a major claim to fame: Summit Plummet, the nation’s tallest, fastest free-fall slide, starts at 120 feet in the air. Blizzard Beach opened in April 1995, and is a spectacular water park. Blizzard Beach is quite a bit bigger than Typhoon Lagoon. Blizzard Beach is the younger of Disney’s water parks, a “ski resort” in the midst of a tropical lagoon centering on the 90-foot Mount Gushmore.

Now that I’ve got your attention, first I would like to say that there is no doubt in my mind that Disney World is geared towards kids. What I mean by my title (Disney World is not for Kids) is that there are many “grown up” things to do there as well. As you may well already know, Disney World (located in Orlando, FL) is much more than just a theme park with Mickey Mouse! It consists of:
- 4 major theme parks
- 2 water parks
- Up to 30 world class resorts and hotels
- A speedway
- Sport complex
- Downtown Area with shops, restaurants, and clubs
- and much more…
The Tampa/St.Pete/Clearwater area is where you will find some of the most pristine and beautiful beaches in Florida. The majority of these beaches are close to one another and a few are remote islands that offer a private retreat for the Florida traveler. The island parks offer some of the best fishing and snorkeling on the west coast of Florida.
Fort Desota Park
Fort De Soto is located in the southwest corner of Mullet Key, at the entrance to Tampa Bay. The entire island is now Fort De Soto Park, a Pinellas county park which offers fine beaches, fishing, nature trails, camping, boating, and much more.

I recently drove from the South to the Midwest and back again. It has been quite a while since I’ve driven a long distance (about 1,000 miles each way) and it caused me to remember why I don’t like to take such trips anymore. We all have our own little idiosyncrasies for driving; for example, older people tend to move more slowly and cautiously than younger people who race pell-mell down the highway; and people tend to drive according to the customs of the geographical region they come from regardless where they currently are. Nonetheless, I have assembled a “Top 10″ list of the basic driving habits that really irritates me and, if corrected, would make driving a lot more bearable for all of us. There is nothing earth-shattering here, just some observations on common driving deficiencies:
We normally take our vacation on the east coast of the Florida peninsula, so we purchased one week of timeshare vacation on Ormond Beach. It was near the end of summer season in 2005, and we had already taken our vacation that year so we decided to space bank our week until later.
